Crete Says “No” to Detention Center… Come Celebrate Thursday!

Two weeks ago, you scratched and clawed to come only one vote shy in the House on our bill to end private detention centers. But last night your hard work paid off. The Crete Village Board voted to withdraw itself from contention for the Detention Center. They got the message loud and clear from all of us, and especially the outstanding Crete residents who lobbied against this awful facility from day one - attending Village Board meetings, organizing their Congressman, holding rallies, and gathering more than a thousand signatures from local residents. Special credit also goes to Fred Tsao, Emily Burns, Jesse Hoyt, and the countless other leaders who have been fighting like hell.

Help us celebrate your hard work at ICIRR’s annual gala, where they will be honoring the Legislative Latino Caucus that worked so hard to stop this detention center, as well as protect immigrant funding, defend All Kids, and champion the parent mentor program. They will also be honoring other heroes: President Toni Preckwinkle, Grace Hou, Margie McHugh, Dave Bender, and the Immigrant Youth Justice League. The price of your ticket will go right back into the important organizing work that wins victories like this one. Buy your tickets or make an extra contribution at www.icirr.org/together.

Thank you for your calls, faxes, bus trips, and sleepless nights in defense of Illinois families!
