CIOGC supports HB 6164

CIOGC supports a supplemental funding bill for the current State fiscal year that, in essence, would fill a $75 million shortfall in this year’s funding for child care services for children of low-income working parents. Absent a supplemental funding bill, providers, especially in-home day care businesses and centers serving mainly low and low-middle income families, would experience payment delays that would put them in serious risk of closure. This would leave families without the child care needed to allow parents to maintain employment and may also place the children at risk.

Last Friday Rep. Feigenholtz introduced a supplemental funding bill for DHS  child care services,  HB 6164.  The bill was referred to the House Rules Committee on May 8th and currently has 7 co-sponsors: Chief co-sponsor Reps. Lisa M. Dugan, Robyn Gabel, Karen A. Yarbrough, Donald L. Moffitt, and Marcus C Evans. This morning Rep. Kimberly du Buclet was added as Chief Co-sponsor and Rep. Robert W. Pritchard as a co-sponsor.

The bill would take the $75 million out of a DHFS line item for Medicare Part B premium payments. We now urge the advocacy in support of HB 6164.  For full information on the bills status click here.
